Happy President’s Day! Are you looking for a full-time job? A new freelance gig? Well, the Monthly Gig Seekers Thread is here to help.
Sent out monthly on the 15th, it works just like those Twitter threads that are designed to promote writers for hire: reply with a short pitch about who you are and what kind of work you’re looking for, whether it’s full-time, part-time, or freelance.
But this is a Substack thread, so that means unlike Twitter, there’s no character limit. Share a link to your portfolio. Talk more about your career goals. Link to a few pieces of work you’re proud of. Up to you.
Participation isn’t limited to subscribers or West Coast-based journalists. All are welcome. If you already posted in last month’s thread, feel free to post an update on what you’ve been up to or if you’re looking to cover new topics/beats. These days, a lot can change in a month.
The thread will be promoted via the newsletter and our social media all month…until the next thread arrives.

Hey, folks. I'm a journalist/ freelance writer based in San Jose, Calif., available to take on a few new assignments. My background is largely in environmental reporting, but I also have written local stories focusing on pandemic-related issues, like safety and compensation for nurses and evictions in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love reporting out enterprise pieces with humans at the center and enjoy acting as a researcher and contributor, too. You can see a bit more about my work here https://www.rachelleven.com/ Connect with me at rachellevenwrites@gmail.com. Thanks so much!
Hi, all. I'm a journalist with 10+ years experience writing looking for all opportunities (FT, PT, freelance).
I operate in simultaneous full-time and freelance reporting positions. I have worked at a weekly publication in metro Detroit, reporting on myriad subject matter including local, state and federal government, crime, courts, the environment, education, substance abuse and mental health, business growth and development, and features.
My freelance work has delved into how urban beekeeping has positively affected vacant lots and youth populations in Detroit; the crunch felt by Michigan soybean farmers due to international trade wars and the COVID-19 pandemic; how national universities and nonprofit military veterans’ group are working in cohesion by using various data to detect mental health triggers that lead to suicide; efforts of environmental groups to shut down a major international energy company’s oil and gas pipeline, and a future tunnel project that allegedly poses a great and immediate risk to the Great Lakes; and political transformations in pockets of the state, notably in rural areas that campaigned vociferously and provided President Joe Biden with an election victory.
I am always seeking new reporting opportunities and am dependable (I have never missed a deadline, even dating back to my collegiate days). Check out my portfolio (https://muckrack.com/nick-mordowanec) and contact me directly if you're looking for writers/reporters.
