Hey there! I write about sports (I am currently furloughed from a full-time motorsports gig) but have covered the NHL, Minor League Baseball and just about every other sort of team sport while at a daily newspaper.

I'm looking for a new full-time gig, though I'm open to new opportunities both inside and outside of sports. Here's a link to my portfolio (https://www.jakesundstrom.com/) and a recent piece I'm pretty proud of (https://medium.com/@jakesundstrom/nascar-isnt-for-everyone-not-yet-46cdcb3bde69).

My ideal spot is somewhere I can write about the intersection of sports and politics, or at the very least current events. I also enjoy writing longer-form feature pieces that allow me to get to know someone before publishing (which I've been able to do in my current position (https://www.nhra.com/news/2019/funny-car-racer-jack-beckman-remains-difficult-define-we-give-it-our-best-shot).

Thanks for doing this, Mallory! Appreciate you a lot.

Hi there, my name is Oliver. I’m a recent graduate of Smith College (B.A. Study of Women and Gender, 2020) and I’m currently searching for full or part-time writing jobs (ideally starting August/September, but given the current desperate situation, I’m pretty flexible). I’m currently working as an Editorial and Social Media intern at Ms. Magazine, and my work has appeared in Autostraddle and the New York Times’ newsletter “The Edit.”

My writing has covered the complicated nature of family and relationships, as well as LGBT, feminist, and mixed race issues — overall, I love to write about how systems of power shape every aspect of our daily lives (ask me about the time I interviewed 10 older single women, or how a pond can be a metaphor for an administration’s refusal to change).

I have experience in copyediting, fact checking, basic audio editing/radio production, and search engine optimization, and I am currently based in the Bay Area in California.

Here’s a link to my portfolio (https://oliverhaug.contently.com/), and to one of my recent pieces for Ms. (https://msmagazine.com/2020/07/06/why-women-make-a-difference-in-social-movements/).

Thanks for doing this, Mallory! Hope you’re all doing well out there, or at least hanging in there.

Emily Blackwood's avatar

Hi! My name is Emily Blackwood, and I'm a freelance writer in San Diego looking to land some more gigs.

While I was proudly carrying the title of Digital Editor for San Diego Home and Garden Lifestyles Magazine, this pandemic thrust me into self-employment, and I've been freelancing in the health and wellness space since March.

I've worked as a news editor for a few community newspapers and led the Pop Culture News team over at YourTango for a bit. So I've covered everything from small-town cat shows to Jay-Z cheating on Beyoncé to everything in between.

While I'm open to most work, I typically write about relationships, self-help, wellness, travel, human interest, and lifestyle topics. I love following my curiosity and seeing where it leads me (currently, it's to a clown school that's apparently operating in my neighborhood coffee shop) and telling meaningful, impactful stories.

Here's a link to an article I'm most proud of: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/singing-in-car-psychological-benefits_n_5bd9e096e4b019a7ab599c2d

Thanks for doing this, Mallory! I love your newsletter and all of the helpful content you put out.

Thanks for this and all you do, Mallory.

I'm Aly Lawson – a pretty darn tech-savvy reporter and marketer across industries and sectors in different locations – and my work can be found at alylawson.com or with @alylawson on Muck Rack, LinkedIn, Twitter and others. This is my favorite story I've done: https://www.alylawson.com/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-school-bus-driver/. And my latest work can be found here: https://coronadotimes.com/news/author/alylawson/.

I've been a military wife and mom for 10 years since graduating as a journalist and with my MBA, working for a while in tech as a marketing writer and also as a freelance reporter. Since having to move a lot, I've taken jobs in freelance, digital marketing, public affairs and journalism. My family has settled in San Diego and I would love to have full-time local or remote work, or more consistent freelance work. I'm a solution for any organization or publication who hires me – ask anyone I've ever worked with.

I was hired as the La Jolla Village News editor but COVID hit and my position was put on hold (after I gave my other position notice), so I've returned to freelancing and hitting the job scene hard. I'll never cease keeping my career afloat and moving forward, because I know I offer great things to a workplace and community.

Appreciate anyone taking the time to read and especially anyone considering reaching out.

Take good care.

Hi there! I'm Jennimai Nguyen, and I am a recent Northwestern grad who is looking for her first full time position. I've interned at New York Magazine's The Cut, where I wrote about art, film, beauty and celebrities. I would love to continue writing about culture and beauty for an online or print publication. My favorite piece from The Cut can be found here: https://www.thecut.com/2020/01/new-york-city-ballet-art-series-lauren-redniss.html

I am also deeply interested in investigative reporting; in my time at Northwestern, I worked on a piece delving into environmental crisis in indigenous Panama islands, as well a piece where I reported on my college town's hospital obstetrics units closing. Find these pieces at my portfolio website at jennimai.weebly.com. I also have experience in marketing content and social media management.

All this to say, my interests vary widely and I am excited to take on my first post college job, located anywhere, even amidst all of this uncertainty!

Thank you Mallory for doing this, it's greatly appreciated!

What's up, everyone? I'm Jon Arnold, and I usually write about soccer, Latin America and ... other stuff.

The best place to get a taste for what I'm passionate about is probably the Substack I maintain on soccer in North America, Central America & the Caribbean (people who know what Concacaf means are my target audience). I published a piece yesterday on a Jamaican poet-coach who worked in Iran and currently is in the UAE - https://getconcacafed.substack.com/p/-the-poet-laureate-of-concacaf-on

I'm also currently covering two suburban communities for the Dallas Morning News where I've discovered I enjoy writing about education & politics (https://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/2020/06/09/mesquite-twins-overcome-challenges-with-immigration-status-busy-schedules-to-become-valedictorian-and-salutatorian/).

I also edit podcasts (Audition), create quick web videos (Premiere Pro or Final Cut) and do occasional Spanish to English translation work.

Happy to chat about freelance projects or full-time opportunities!

Hello wonderful people! My name is Jamee Lind and I am a digital producer with over eight years of experience. I have had the pleasure of producing digital marketing strategies and content for several incredible brands including MTV, the Discovery Channel, and Henkel.

My career at a glance = creating Instagram stories, editing and producing short digital pieces, designing graphics in order to make your product, story, or idea into a digestable digital piece.

As a passionate digital storyteller, I have spent my career chasing and creating a variety of social content. Currently, I am pitching, editing, and perfecting hair product content for the Schwarzkopf Professional USA department of Henkel. When I am not glued to Premiere Pro or Photoshop, I am reviewing our digital successes and failures as a digital strategist. Prior to this, I managed the Discovery Channel’s 172+ million combined online followers. During my two years at the Discovery Channel, I gathered and analyzed social analytics, and more than doubled the Discovery Instagram from five million to eleven million followers, as well as developed and manage a talent network of over 200 wildlife photographers. I have also worked with a legal startup as videographer and content creator, a breaking news reporter for the Arizona Republic, and a multimedia sports reporter during the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
