Are you looking for a full-time job? A new freelance gig? Well, the Quarterly Gig Seekers Thread is here.
Sent out quarterly on the 15th of January, April, July, and October, it works just like those Twitter threads that are designed to promote media folks for hire: reply with a short pitch about who you are and what kind of work you’re looking for, whether it’s full-time, part-time, or freelance.
But this is a Substack thread, so that means unlike Twitter, there’s no character limit. Share a link to your portfolio. Talk more about your career goals. Link to a few pieces of work you’re proud of. Up to you.
Participation isn’t limited to subscribers or West Coast-based journalists. All are welcome. If you already posted in last month’s thread, feel free to post an update on what you’ve been up to or if you’re looking to cover new topics/beats.
The thread will be promoted via the newsletter and our social media all season…until the next thread arrives.
As a 40+year reporter, I contribute sports, automotive, business and lifestyle articles to several publications. For the past seven years I have written a weekly automotive column (new car reviews and industry trends) for Bay Area News Group (San Jose Mercury News, East Bay Times.) I have edited/published the website https://www.theweeklydriver.com since 2004. And I am a monthly contributor to Gulfshore Business Magazine in Naples, Florida.
I am seeking additional outlets for my weekly new car review column. It's a general-interest review, 600-words, plus exterior and interior independent images, as needed.
I am also a veteran new products reviewer, primarily with mainstream consumer goods.
Hi! I'm Matthew Royer, I'm a student journalist who's currently the News Editor for the LA Press Club's College Newspaper of the Year, The Valley Star.
I have experience with reporting, copyediting, page design, graphic design, social media, and online web-work. I'm seeking journalism internships and freelance work either remote or in the Greater-Los Angeles Area.
My name's Hanna Merzbach, and I'm an Oregon-based independent journalist, writer and fact-checker. I write news stories and features about housing & homelessness, the uneven effects of climate change, state politics and anything else that piques my interest. I especially love a solutions story.
