West Coast Media Jobs: With open roles at PBS NewsHour, Wall Street Journal, E! Online & more!
Hey everyone,
As I announced on Twitter, I’ll be following the lead of many journalists before me and will be sponsoring 4 AAJA Student Memberships for West Coast Media Jobs subscribers.
AAJA is an organization that means a lot to me. I’m half-Chinese and I have spent many, many years of my 16-year career as one of the few Asians in the newsrooms I’ve worked in and even in my grad school co-hort. Especially early in my career, AAJA’s annual conventions became a refuge for me to connect with other AAPI folks and talk about the issues we face as the only Asian Americans in our newsrooms.
And I’m excited to connect student subscribers to AAJA. Student memberships are meant for “enrolled high school, undergraduate, community college or graduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism,” according to the AAJA site.
You’ll enter using this short form. You have until March 31st to enter. Good luck!
If you’re looking for a job, leave a comment about what you’re looking for on our March Gig Seekers Thread. It’s open to everyone; you don’t need to be a subscriber or based on the West Coast to participate.
If you’re a hiring manager, check out these talented journalists: Nicholas Slayton, an L.A.-based reporter/editor/researcher/arts journalist/personal trainer and former co-editor of Los Angeles Downtown News; Rebecca Katz, an LA-based audio journalist and producer; Claire Bugos, a reporter, researcher and writer from the SF Bay Area (currently looking to relocate to Chicago).
From Poynter: Hate crimes against Asian Americans: What the numbers show, and don’t; The Collective, a new monthly newsletter for Journalists of Color, by Journalists of Color.
