West Coast Media Jobs: With open roles at the LA Times, SFGATE, Digiday, & more!
If you’re looking for a job, leave a comment about what you’re looking for on our Fall Gig Seekers Thread. It’s open to everyone; you don’t need to be a subscriber or based on the West Coast to participate.
Check out these talented journalists!
Cassandre Coyer: “I am a French native journalist who has lived and worked across the United States for six years. My experience working at an international news organization, at national and local newspapers, and working on different documentaries has made me a thorough and compassionate reporter passionate about telling powerful stories…I'm looking for both full-time work and freelance opportunities…” more
Bill Lascher: “I'd love to find more markets for freelance narrative history or writing about the historical context of current events. I've just submitted the manuscript of my second book — The Golden Fortress: California's Border War on Dust Bowl Refugees — and I'm eager to dig back into freelance writing, especially stories that use history to provide a new perspective on contemporary subjects…” more
The Gig Seekers thread is now sent out quarterly on the 15th day of January, April, July, and October.
Last week’s post: An audio Q&A with my friend and former colleague, freelance entertainment journalist Olivia Truffaut-Wong! Check it below and let me know what you think.

From Poynter’s The Lead: New to editing? Follow these four steps to streamline the process
From Mandy Hofmockel: Check out her calendar of paid internships and fellowships deadlines for spring and summer! Super helpful.
Freelance Resources: The Commission Hunter’s rolling pitch opportunities spreadsheet (updated often!); Rachel Charlene Lewis’ great Freelancing Guide/Editorial Contacts spreadsheet.
What to Watch: I’ve been watching two great baking shows! First was Baker’s Dozen on Hulu, which has self-taught bakers and professional ones competing against one another. The second was Baking Impossible, a fun Netflix series that teams up bakers with engineers to create some really cool edible structures and machines.
Things of Note is now open to submissions! Submit your own links, pop culture recs, and stuff of note for future consideration.
